Good news for Richmond job seekers! New York-based Blue Apron, a 2012 startup that delivers fresh, pre-portioned ingredients for home-cooked meals, is adding 400 full-time employees at its fulfillment center here in Richmond.
Better yet? These jobs are available NOW. Given our City’s 11.5 percent unemployment rate, this news is something to shout about! Current employment opportunities available at the company’s Richmond facility include (but are not limited to):
- Hourly Fulfillment Center Roles: Applicants for these roles will join one of two core teams within the fulfillment center:
- The Kitchen Team—Responsible for ensuring full execution for all ingredients in each week’s box; or
- The Packing Team—Responsible for putting Blue Apron’s finished ingredients into boxes and serving as the final quality check on all items.
Blue Apron’s team members work eight-hour shifts, four to five days per week. The company offers all full-time, hourly employees a competitive benefits package, as well as free lunch daily and a discount on meal subscriptions.
“We are excited to grow our employee base on the West Coast, and to bring employment opportunities to Richmond and the Bay Area,” said Matt Salzberg, Blue Apron founder and CEO.
So—why the “Blue Apron” moniker? According to the company, chefs wear blue aprons when learning to cook, so it has become a symbol of lifelong learning in cooking. Blue Apron, which delivers more than 600,000 meals per month via its fulfillment centers, aims to encourage culinary education with its recipes by introducing members to new ingredients, flavors and cooking techniques.
“We are excited to learn about the new employment opportunities available at Blue Apron, and hope that the company will give serious consideration to the many qualified Richmond residents who will be applying for these positions,” said For Richmond Jobs Chair Willie Hicks.
