An upcoming golf tournament is “pulling out all the clubs” in support of a very worthy Richmond cause.
The Richmond Police Activity League’s (RPAL) “36th Annual Scramble Golf Tournament” is set for Friday, September 29, 2017, at the Tilden Park Golf Course.
The tournament kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with registration, followed by a putting contest and BBQ lunch for participants. At 1 p.m., the shotgun scramble tournament will start, later followed by a tri-tip dinner and awards.
If the promise of a delicious BBQ lunch, a day of golf and a tri tip dinner don’t entice participants, perhaps the tournament’s central aim will: To raise funding for the diverse array of programs and initiatives RPAL offers to empower community youth.
“The proceeds go to help assist RPAL with continuing to do community outreach with our youth, providing them with safe activities and other opportunities that they may not otherwise have,” said Lt. Joseph Schlemmer of the Richmond Police Department, who also serves as For Richmond’s board chair.
RPAL programs for youth that will be bolstered by tournament funds include scholarships, internships, sports, computer lab and mentoring—to name a few.
Sponsor golf package opportunities range from $100 on up to $2,500 or a larger general donation amount.
To register for the event or to inquire about it, contact Marsha Tomassi at M.Tomassi@comcast.net or 510-215-6133 or 510-323-3403.

According to its website, RPAL’s mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for West Contra Costa County youth through recreational, educational, cultural and social programs while building positive relations between police officers and the community.
“Anyone who is unfamiliar with the great work that RPAL is doing, I encourage them to stop by our building at 22nd & Macdonald,” said Lt. Schlemmer.
