An upcoming Richmond event will give you the opportunity to “love your mother” this Earth Day.
“Spring Clean-Up and Chess in the Park” is set for Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Green Space Park located at the corner of Harbour Way and Macdonald Boulevard in Richmond.
According to organizers, the event welcomes community members to volunteer to “help spruce up the Community Green Space Park and get it ready for summer.”
The park cleanup portion of the day will begin digging in at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be asked to help with weeding, pruning, litter pickup, raking, cleaning out the storage container and the like. Groups are encouraged to participate and community service hours will be honored as part of the effort. Tools will be provided.
Following the cleanup, participants are invited to stay for lunch, play chess and enjoy a variety of other activities for all ages from 1-2 p.m.
The special event is being organized by the West Coast Chess Alliance and Richmond Main Street Initiative.
As some Richmond residents may know, the park is home to a vibrant mural that was organized by the Create Peace Project and created with the help of 250 local community members who pitched in with painting. Dedicated in August 2016, the mural drew in help from people ranging from five through 80 years of age.
The community-powered mural will provide the perfect backdrop to the Earth Day cleanup effort.
