If music and food are the great unifiers, then Point Richmond Music’s 16th Annual Summer Concert Series is all that and more. Not to mention it’s FREE.
Friday, June 9th will usher in the return of the popular summertime, street-wide concert series with two Richmond-grown musical acts: Tia Carroll & Her Awesome Blues Band (blues, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.) and Andre Thierry (zydeco/accordion soul, 6:45 – 8:00 p.m.).
The concerts will convene at the corner of Park Place and Washington Avenue in downtown Point Richmond—as will the rest of the performances throughout the summer for the Friday night concert series.
The series was “named ‘Best Outdoor Music Series’ and an ‘Absolute Must Do in the East Bay this Summer’ by the East Bay Express,” per a statement from the event organizers at Point Richmond Music, which added that “the grassroots series has become a favorite Bay Area summer tradition. Concerts feature arts and crafts booths, face-painting for children, opportunity drawings and dancing in the streets.”
Also adding to the festivities, according to Point Richmond Music, will be local restaurants serving an eclectic mix of fine fare and an alternating group of food trucks at each concert. A no-host bar will offer some of Richmond’s very own craft beer selections from in-kind sponsors East Brother Beer Co. and Benoit Casper Brewing. Proceeds will support the summer concert series.
Other musical acts lined up this summer for the concert series include Howell Devine (blues) and Second Line (funk) July 14; Delta Wires (blues) and Bicicletas por la Paz (Latin) Aug. 11; Evie Ladin Bank (neo-folk) and Lucky Losers Sept. 8; and Sang Matiz (Latin) and Pangea Futbol Club (Latin) Sept. 22.
“If music moves you, Point Richmond is where you need to be,” Joy Viray posted on Facebook in review of the concert series. “This vibrant community nails it when it comes to throwing a ‘can’t miss’ street party! Catch top notch musicians up close and discover your new favorite band. Let your hair down and dance like no one’s watching.”
